The History of Concrete (2026)
“The year’s funniest film.” (The Daily Beast)
Had your fill of the holiday-movie formula? So has John Wilson. In his first feature film, the creator of HBO’s How To with John Wilson attends a workshop on how to write and sell a Hallmark movie, then tries to use the same formula to sell a documentary about the least likely subject imaginable: concrete.
What follows is a funny, wandering and unexpectedly moving tour of the material our world is built on. It visits ancient Rome, the nation’s first concrete-paved road in Bellefontaine, Ohio, and a concrete convention where people talk seriously about building on the moon. Along the way, Wilson’s camera catches the strange and tender moments of everyday life that made his HBO series so beloved.
The perfect break from a season of formula: a film that knows the rules and has fun breaking them.
